Sadler Architects have experience of working at all stages of the planning, design and construction process and of providing a full service capability from site appraisal to building completion.

The architect’s job is to guide the clients project through the design process from developing a brief, creating visionary and imaginative ideas, consulting with the Local Authority to seek approvals and co-ordinate contractors to bring the project to fruition on site and create lasting value for the client and community.

Feasibility:
We begin a project by meeting with the client to obtain some initial thoughts about the property; their needs from the building and how they would like to see it adapted or constructed in order meet their wishes. This gives us a broad feel from which we can develop a formal brief that outlines the key requirements and constraints of the project, the route map to the statutory planning aspects, the contract services framework and fees

Once engaged to commence work we begin to analyse the site and contextual requirements and work through the design principles to prepare some outline proposals. These generally take the form of sketches that lead to plans produced using computer aided design (CAD) software.

This type of approach is combined with the use of ‘mood images’ that offer an idea of the direction that could be taken for the project in terms of style, construction, layout and materials. We find these methods invaluable in helping the client to visualise and define exactly how they would like their property to be developed and how best to present the case for a planning application.

Pre-construction period:
Once a concept proposal has been agreed, work can then begin on production of submission material for statutory proposals (drawings, design statement, construction notes etc), such as planning permission and further development for building regulations.

Construction period:
The process of design and construction proceeds through a number of further inter-related stages in order to translate the original vision into reality on site. The whole process is summarised on this document.
